Three horses plowed through the snow, it was a Lead mare of a herd that had been destroyed, and her two adult sons, Moon, and Shadow. "I can't believe this, Rain!" Moon wailed, "It's been months, we'll never find a new home!" He stomped his foot, his long white sock blended in with the snow. "Moon, shut up and walk," his brother grunted. "Knock it off." Rain, sighed, stopping for just a moment. "The suns going down we have to stop." Shadow said solidly, "we cant stop in the middle of a snow-covered feild, look there's some woods!" Moon pointed out. "Lets split up and look around." Rain suggested. "Okay," Shadow neighed, trotting ahead of them,"I'll look over in the forest." Moon said, taking off at canter, "I'll look for a path to get through the woodland." Rain whinnied, trotting forward.

Shadow was at the back of the field, there were lots of trees, and a pond with an island in the middle, the ice was thick enough for Shadow to walk over it, he slid half the way, nearly losing his footing, then stepped into the snow, as he took another step, the snow went up to his knee, he heard a crack, then the ground gave away. He let out a terrified whinnie, but it was drowned out by the crumbling of rock and snow. He found himself in a small gave, there were long, high dirt walls, and then a rock one, there was no way of getting out. He reared up, terrified. "Help!" He neighed. But nobody heard him. His hooves were flailing in the air, he came crashing to the ground, then lashed out with his hind leg, he felt his hoof hit rock, then he whipped around, the rock wall had crumbled down, there was a small cavern, "Wow." Shadow said, pricking his ears. The last of the sunlight was peeping through a small holle, Shadow looked to his right, there was a small, somewhat steep slope, that led to snow, Shadow charged up it blindly, he felt the wetness seep into his black fur. But when he looked up, he was galloping through snow, he was out! As he turned around, he saw that the hole he made, eventually went into were he fell, he slipped back inside, there was a thin dirt wall, Shadow didn't hesitate to push through it, there was a long path, then another cavern with a slope that led outside, when he went out, he was in the forest, all around him were small dens, big enough for four horses or more. "This is amazing!" He cried.

Moon cantered through the forest, he stopped were the trees all stopped, there was a building. He could see a few paddocks then a large stable, there were three horses being brought inside the stable. "A barn!" He wailed, whipping around and galloping blindly back into the forest, he stopped at a large clearing. It had no snow in it, but a lot of underground tunnels, one of which was very large. "Wow!" He cried, looking around he realized he was at the front of the field the horses had once been in.

Conclusion: Rain, Shadow, and Moon met up at the middle of the field. Moon and Shadow had shared there news. "Mother.." Shadow began. "I found shelter." He paused looking at the black and white mare. "And my home." He gulped. "What?!" Rain cried. "I want to stay here mother!" She looked puzzled, and Moon was also astonished, he shook his head. "Me too, mom, I found my home, too." Moon whinnied softly. "There is a stable not too far from here, the horses can join us." Shadow said proudly. "Very well." Rain nodded, "I will miss you, but perhaps I will be a loner, and live between your territories. "You will be welcome to out territories whenever you like, please stop by often" Shadow smiled. Rain felt like her heart was being burst into pieces, she hadn't seen her son smile since he was a yearling. She nodded, then walked forward. "I will visit you." She neighed, "but are relations will not be as strong." She looked at them. "Goodbye"

Herd Characters: All the personalities of the horses from each herd were shaped by the actions or personalities of the original wolf who started the pack. ShadowHerd: Intelligent, very judgmental of things. The horses are quick and agile, rarley trip, and can avoid dips and trees with ease. Horses are anti-social. MoonHerd: Friendly, and social, they are swift and cunning. And like areas with lots of trees.
